LBGTQ Nation, John Gallagher, February 25, 2021 – Will enough Republican senators sign onto the Equality Act for it to pass? Probably not. Thanks to arcane Senate rules, Democrats need ten Republican votes to pass the Equality Act. That’s a very tall order.

Oath Keepers Indictment
Law enforcement and news-media organizations observed that members of an organization known as the Oath Keepers were among the individuals and groups who forcibly entered the Capitol on January 6, 2021. The Oath Keepers are a large but loosely organized collection of individuals, some of whom are associated with militias. Some members of the Oath Keepers believe that the federal government has been coopted by a cabal of elites actively trying to strip American citizens of their rights. Though the Oath Keepers will accept anyone as members, they explicitly focus on recruiting current and former military, law enforcement, and first -responder personnel. The organization’s name alludes to the oath sworn by members of the military and police to defend the Constitution from all enemies, foreign and domestic.” The Oath Keepers are led by PERSON ONE. 1

Shirkey, Mike (R-MI State Senate Majority Leader)
“That wasn’t Trump people. That’s been a hoax from day one,” Michigan state Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey (R) said of the riot last week. He added that it “was all staged.” He later apologized for his remarks — but was caught on an open mic admitting that he still held those views. 2
The claim: “Too many dead people voted” in Michigan. Michigan’s top elected Republican relied on an oft-repeated and inaccurate claim about dead voters to bolster his argument for changes in state election law. 3

- Senators See No Accountability for Trump Insurrection
Bringing shame to the US Capitol. Senate Republicans overwhelmingly voted to ACQUIT Donald Trump of high crimes and misdemeanors. Trump and his right-wing allies may be popping champagne down at Mar-a-Lago, but top Republicans won’t be celebrating for much longer when they see what’s happening right now.
With Republicans voting to say Trump is above the law, they’ve chosen to turn their back on our democracy.
